The Founding Year in Paris
After many years working as a design and art dealer in Brazil — and living fully as an art collector and appreciator — 2007 marked a deep immersion into Paris’s artistic landscape, a period dedicated to studying its rhythms and laying the foundations for what would become the Ricardo Fernandes Gallery in Europe.
Meeting artists, curators, critics, collectors, and cultural institutions, collaborated to form the network that would shape the gallery’s future. Ricardo Fernandes immediately started presenting a group of Brazilian Modern/Contemporary artworks to the market, as well as contemporary Latin American and European artists.
Studio visits in France and Brazil, conversations, and research helped him identify the artistic practices that resonated with his sensibility. Works grounded in materiality, memory, identity, and the complexities of contemporary life.
At the same time, he was defining the gallery’s DNA:
- a contemporary and internationally oriented vision
- a commitment to artists whose work engages with the world’s transformations
- a gallery conceived as a space for reflection, dialogue, and intellectual presence
- An art hub for international art collectors
Behind the scenes, 2007 was the year when the internal structure began to take form—communication strategies, curatorial direction, and the first outlines of the gallery long program.
A year of strategy and construction, largely invisible to the public, yet essential to everything that followed.
