This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to Brazilian artist Antonio Temporão (1937–2011), presented at Ricardo Fernandes Gallery in Paris in 2011, only a few months before the artist’s passing. Conceived with curatorship, scenography and lighting design by Ricardo Fernandes, the exhibition offered a rare and intimate look at Temporão’s final creative period.
The publication highlights the artist’s distinctive approach to photographic construction, in which objects, gestures and atmospheres are carefully staged to reveal layers of meaning. Temporão’s images often emerge from a process of manipulation and conceptual preparation, inviting viewers to reflect on perception, transformation and the emotional tensions present in everyday life.
The Paris exhibition featured the intense series L’Agressivité et la douceur, created within a self‑built red environment that allowed the artist to explore variations of a single color. Through this immersive setting, Temporão developed a dramatic visual language that addresses opposing forces and inner states, revealing the complexity of human experience.
With texts in French by Ricardo Fernandes and a concise 16‑page format, the catalogue stands as both a document of the exhibition and a tribute to one of Brazil’s remarkable photographic voices.
