This catalogue was published in 2012 for the exhibition Touch presented at the Centre Culturel Cloître des Billettes in Paris, curated by Thierry Renaudin‑Viot with scenography by Ricardo Fernandes. The project featured sixteen works by Adélio Sarro (born 1950), a Brazilian artist whose practice is rooted in social awareness and a profound sense of human connection. Conceived specifically for visually impaired visitors, the exhibition proposed a pioneering approach to accessibility in the arts, inviting audiences to experience painting through touch as well as sight.

Sarro developed a unique method that allows visually impaired individuals to perceive his compositions through texture, relief and material variation. His mixed‑media technique incorporates paint, paper, wood, sand and other elements, creating surfaces that can be explored by hand. This tactile dimension expands the meaning of the works, transforming them into multisensory experiences that reveal the artist’s commitment to inclusion and shared perception. The project had previously been presented at the Salvador Contemporary Art Museum and the São Paulo Art Museum before its Paris edition.

The catalogue documents this innovative exhibition and situates it within Sarro’s broader artistic trajectory, shaped by his challenging childhood and his ongoing engagement with social issues. His work reflects a desire to bridge divides, reaffirming the place of visually impaired individuals within cultural spaces and questioning the traditional boundaries of artistic interpretation. With texts by Ricardo Fernandes and Thierry Renaudin‑Viot, this bilingual publication (English and French) offers insight into a project that redefined the relationship between art, accessibility and community.
